The Southside church of Christ, Terre Haute, IN

We want to tell you just a bit about ourselves.  First of all, our building is located in Terre Haute, IN, just south of Regional Hospital on 7th street.  Our members come from a number of different Wabash Valley communities, but we all share the same goal, which is to live in such a way in our communities, that people may see the good works and glorify God.  Although we have a place for gatherings, a basketball goal, a youth building, etc.,  our function and philosophy is not to be a community center, but to be a community ... a community of believers.

Believers in the birth, life, death, and especially, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We watch the movie “The Passion of the Christ”, and are not astonished at the cruelty of man – but overwhelmed by the love of the Father and of His Son Jesus.  Each stroke of the whip; each thorn; every hammer strike on the nails remind us that He did that for each one of us … for the community of believers  … for me ..

But not just for those who believe … Jesus suffered, died, and rose again for those who may yet believe.

As a community of believers we take our responsibilities towards each other seriously.  We gather together many times during the week to share, to commune, and to encourage one another.

The name on the building says "Southside church of Christ", and we share many common values with other churches of Christ worldwide.  We are autonomous and are led by the men of the local group.  We sing without the use of instruments (acappella) and have communion services each Sunday.  We believe in the absolute authority of the Bible for our direction as a group and instructions for our daily walk.  We believe that the purpose of the church is to bring others to Jesus and help the saved walk more closely to Him.  We believe that when a person hears the message of Jesus and the cross, his response of faith is to believe, repent of sinful ways, confess Jesus before men, and to be immersed in water, where Acts 2:38 and Acts 22:16 state there will be a remission or washing away of sins.  We believe in the words of Jesus to Nicodemus, that a man must be born again to see the kingdom of heaven.
